PTFE Gaskets
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) gaskets, also known by the brand name Teflon®, are widely utilized in various industrial applications due to their exceptional chemical resistant properties and outstanding temperature ability.
PTFE possess several key properties that make it ideal for diverse applications. These include being largely unaffected by most corrosive chemicals, maintaining integrity across a wide temperature range from approximately -260°C (-430°F) to 260°C (500°F), and having low friction characteristics and a non-stick surface. PTFE also offers excellent electrical insulation properties, is non-moisture absorbing, is resistant to UV and ozone, and meets most FDA (Food and Drug Administration) requirements.
Different types of PTFE Gasket Materials:
Virgin PTFE Gaskets: Made from pure PTFE, they offer high chemical resistance but are susceptible to cold flow.
Filled PTFE Gaskets: These include fillers like glass, carbon, silica, barium sulfate and bronze to improve mechanical properties and reduce cold flow.
Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) Gaskets: Created by expanding virgin PTFE, resulting in a flexible material with good creep resistance and the chemical resistance of virgin PTFE.
